I hold a hardcover copy of this book, which is apparently a temperance worker's account of bootlegger shenanigans set in the Eastern Townships of Quebec from where whisky was being delivered into Vermont during Prohibition, allegedly via the railroad system. The 'dark plot' involves a real life lead pipe murder, but the whole factual account is rather short and the bulk of the book is taken up with letters about the whole affair as written by local indignant citizens and temperance people. It's a good book for getting the feeling of the times but interest from outside the area of Quebec's Brome and Missisquoi Counties will be fairly limited and specialized. Family members however assure me that this was a book of considerable interest in its day, and widely circulated, at least amongst temperance believers, on both sides of the border.Product details

This book was written by my great grandmother in 1894. I am curious as to who re-published it. It's a great book about a great man!
